About the Project
A Campaign to Spread
Social Media Awareness
I took design as a profession because it gave me the power to address the issues shaping our lives today and the ability to make change. This project takes my passion and applies it to one of the most influential forces in our society today: social media. By creating a booklet that explored the effects of social media in our everday world, along with an impactful billboard advertisement and physical merchandise, I aimed to encourage more thoughtful, conscious use of social media platforms.
Working on this campaign helped me grow not just in skill, but in purpose. It taught me how to design with intention, how to communicate complex ideas clearly, and how to create work that goes beyond aesthetics to make a real-world impact.

Identifying the Problem
What is the problem this campaign addresses?
This campaign addresses the often-overlooked reality that social media isn’t just virtual, it has real-world consequences. It aims to make people aware that a single post made on a screen can shape opinions and even influence real-life outcomes.
What is the solution?
My solution was to create a bold, eye-catching campaign that makes people stop and think about how social media is shaping the world around them, for better and for worse. Through a striking booklet, powerful billboard ads, and attention-grabbing merchandise, I used the same visual tricks social media platforms use to pull their audience in. But instead of selling a product, this campaign sells awareness. It pushes viewers to realize how much influence they hold in their hands every time they post, share, or scroll, reminding them that what happens online doesn’t stay online.

Research
Real life events and impact
While developing the campaign, I researched real-life events where social media played a direct role in shaping outcomes, from viral misinformation to global movements. This helped ground the campaign in reality and highlight the undeniable influence these platforms have on our world. This is a link to the document that shows the various sources I used for my research: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1V2_qggwhaPPMOAKnt_fVriv17n7VgGT-82s75y6GYDg/edit?usp=sharing

Sketching
Layout Design
While designing the central booklet for the campaign, I sketched out a concept that splits the booklet into two contrasting halves: one showing the negative impact of social media, the other the positive. The negative side uses bold primary colors and attention-grabbing headlines, mimicking the tactics social media platforms use to push extreme content. In contrast, the positive side features a clean black-and-white layout, reflecting balance, clarity, and meaningful connections that can be built using social media.

Expanding the campaign
To expand the reach of the social media awareness campaign, I created a notepad that provides context and deeper insight into the real-life events mentioned in the main booklet. Designed as a companion piece, the notepad allows readers to engage with the content in a more reflective, informative way. It will be distributed alongside the booklet with branded merchandise like pens and pins, helping to spark conversation and spread awareness beyond just the page, turning everyday items, used by the target demographic of young adults who actively participate in social media, into reminders of the campaign’s message.
